Queenstown local, Domenic Mondillo, is our guest winemaker/viticulturist for our September wine dinner, where he will be discussing his passion for his vineyard, his inherent love of the environment, and his driving force to produce exquisite wines year after year.

Domenic Mondillo’s life has been entrenched in the food and wine industry. Originally from the USA, with an Italian heritage, Domenic’s introduction to cooking and wine making began as a child with his grandfather – and he has never looked back!

Domenic moved to Queenstown in 1981 (enticed by the fly-fishing and skiing) where he was chef/owner of two multi-award winning restaurants before becoming involved in the Central Otago wine industry in 1992. Domenic has shared his time for the past 18 years, between Queenstown and Oregon, where he consults in viticulture and winemaking.

In 2001, Domenic and his wife Ally, established their own vineyard at Bendigo in Central Otago, producing wines under the Mondillo brand. Mondillo is a small twelve-hectare single vineyard, creating hand crafted Pinot Noir and Riesling wines.

14 years on, their trophy winning wines seem to fly under the radar, with sell-out vintages of their Bella Reserve Pinot Noir, Mondillo Pinot Noir, Riesling, Rosé and ‘Nina’ exclusively to clients throughout New Zealand and direct sales around the world.

Domenic is excited about the wine dinner at the Hilton as he will be releasing, his 2018 Rosé and Riesling vintages along with his other wines for everyone to enjoy.
